Everyone knows that one of the most essential things when you’re going on a trip is getting packed up so that you don’t arrive at your destination and realize that you forgot everything! It’s essential to know how to properly pack a suitcase so that you don’t end up running out of room and having to decide what to leave behind.
If you are really trying to maximize the space in your suitcase, you can try different techniques with your clothing and other materials. There is an easy way to think about packing a suitcase when you first start– pack your suitcase in shapes such as cubes or sleeves. From there, go along with our list on how to properly pack a suitcase.
Keep Liquids Accessible
It is known that when you pack a carry-on, you will need to put all your liquids in a plastic bag. When going through security, you’ll probably need to take it out. For that reason, it’s best to keep your plastic bag full of liquids in an accessible place. Keep the plastic bag out so that you know you should pack it last and make sure that it will stay at the top of your bag.
Rolling VS Folding
If you’re someone who rolls their clothes, you probably swear by it– I know I do! However, it really is best to pack your suitcase with a combination of both rolling and folding. If you are rolling your t-shirts with your socks inside, it can be really great to save space. You shouldn’t roll your jeans or your other pants because they take up less space by simply folding them.
When you are packing your shoes, don’t let any sort of space go to waste. It can be beneficial to stuff things into your shoes, including socks and accessories. If your shoes are dirty, pack them in a plastic bag or put a shower cap over them to protect the rest of your bag from the dirt.
Suitcases can be hard to know what order to pack in, especially because we are typically packing them on their side and aren’t taking into account that they’ll be turned up! I normally pack my shoes at the bottom of my suitcase, just so that they aren’t having a lot of contact with the other things in my bag (you never know what gets on your shoes!).
From there, it’s best to pack your rolled clothes and then put your folded clothes and accessories on top, topping those off with your ziplock bag of liquids so you can easily take them out in the security line.
Packing your suitcase can be intimidating, but it can be easier and easier the more you practice. Our list makes it easy to remember how to properly pack a suitcase.
